Alberta Culture Days

Celebrate Culture Days with a free night of art making! Join mother-daughter duo Mary Escano and Emiliana Soriano for a hands-on workshop inspired by traditional Filipino basket weaving. Using paper, palm, and banana leaf, participants will paint and create a contemporary woven mat. Whether you're trying weaving for the first time or reconnecting with a familiar craft, you'll leave with a beautiful handmade piece and a deeper appreciation for this timeless art form. Celebrate culture through creativity! This program is made possible through the partnership of Gallery@501 and the Strathcona County Library. Mary Escano is a Filipina Canadian artist + educator from Edmonton. A Grant MacEwan BFA graduate, her painting work explores Filipino identity and family. She has exhibited at Mitchell Art Gallery, Philippine Arts Council, and The Art Gallery St Albert.
